Why FON matters

Your plant is running? Without FON the process isn't finished.

Many generation sources operate under a temporary permit (ION). Without FON within the deadline the Distribution System Operator (DSO) has the right to disconnect the installation from the grid and impose financial penalties.

FON is formal confirmation that your installation meets the European Network Code NC RfG. Without it — the installation has not been fully accepted.

  1. Plant commissioned ION

You receive a temporary permit (ION).

  2. NC RfG tests

Comprehensive on-site measurements — power, communication, grid parameters.

  3. Report and submission to DSO

Complete documentation handed over to the DSO.

  4. FON granted

Your window: typically 12–24 months from ION.

Who we work with

We partner with EPC contractors and asset owners alike

  • EPC firms and main contractors

We take FON off your plate so you can focus on the next project.

When your contractor didn't handle FON or lacked the expertise.

  • Investors and SPVs

When the deadline is closing in and other firms decline the job.

About

BMC — specialists in Final Operational Notification

We deliver the entire procedure for obtaining the Final Operational Notification (FON) for Type-B PPM. This isn't a side service. It's our specialty.

From day one we've watched EPC firms and asset owners learn about NC RfG testing too late — often when the deadline is already closing in. Our goal isn't only to walk you through the procedure but to help you understand it.

By 1 January 2026 we had delivered tests and obtained FON for 48 sites across Poland. Every one of them was a success.

Type-B PPM covers MV-connected installations from 0.2 to 10 MW. We specialize exclusively in PV farms — a narrow specialty means deep knowledge.

FON Process

How to obtain FON — the entire process, step by step

The obligation to obtain FON stems from EU Commission Regulation 2016/631 — every new generation unit must demonstrate it can safely operate within the grid. Without FON the connection process isn't formally complete, exposing the asset to disconnection and financial penalties.

  1. 01

    Commissioning ION

The installation is connected to the grid and granted a temporary permit.

    12–24 mo. window
  2. 02

    Contact us and case review

You send us the documentation (IWR, WP, executive design). We assess the test scope and prepare an offer.

  3. 03

    Contract & HPiT preparation

After you accept the offer we prepare the Test & Trial Schedule and agree it with the DSO.

  4. 04

    On-site testing

We mobilise to the site and run NC RfG tests per the approved HPiT.

    up to 2 wk
  5. 05

    Report & DSO submission

We compile the full test report and submit it to the DSO together with the PGMD document.

    up to 1 mo.
  6. 06

    DSO coordination FON

We coordinate every exchange with the DSO until FON is issued and keep you updated throughout.

NC RfG · PPM typu B

What do NC RfG tests for Type-B PPM consist of?

  • Power quality — parameters at the connection point (voltage, frequency, harmonics and more)
  • Active power control — ability to curtail production on DSO request
  • Reactive power control — cos φ regulation and reactive generation on DSO request
  • DSO communication — remote control and data exchange capability
  • Other tests, specific to each installation

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Basics — FON and NC RfG

What is the FON document?
FON (Final Operational Notification) is the formal document issued by the Distribution System Operator. It confirms the installation meets the NC RfG Network Code and transitions the asset from the temporary (ION) state to full operation.
Why do I need FON?
It is required by EU Regulation NC RfG (2016/631). Every new generation unit — including Type-B PPM — must prove it can operate safely within the grid. FON is the certificate of that compliance.
When do I need FON?
After commissioning, the asset operates under a temporary permit (ION). You typically have 12–24 months to run the tests and obtain FON. The exact deadline comes from the connection agreement.
What happens if I miss the deadline?
The DSO has the right to disconnect the installation (no production, no energy sales) and impose contractual financial penalties.
What are NC RfG tests?
A set of measurements and trials confirming the installation meets the DSO's technical requirements. They cover active and reactive power control, DSO communication and behaviour during grid disturbances. Real on-site tests — not declarations.

Timing and scheduling

How long does on-site testing take?
Under normal weather conditions — up to 2 weeks.
I'm short on time — what should I do?
Get in touch as soon as possible. Even with tight deadlines we'll work out a plan together. Don't waste time searching — call today.

Technical

I have a non-standard setup — can you help?
Yes. We've tested various inverter brands (Huawei, SunGrow, Sofar, Suntrio, Kehua, Fronius, Hoymiles, SMA and others). Reactive-power compensation, power guards, custom controllers — all familiar territory.
Which tests apply to Type-B PPM?
The scope depends on technical documentation and the DSO, but typically covers: power-quality parameters at the connection point, active and reactive power control, and DSO communication confirmation.

Working with us

Do you operate across Poland?
Yes. We've delivered tests in every voivodeship. The distance between our most-distant projects is roughly 751 km.
How much does FON cost?
We approach every project individually because the test scope and complexity vary. Free quote after a documentation review.
What's your experience?
We've been doing NC RfG testing since 2021. By 1 January 2026 we had delivered 48 projects across Poland. Every one received FON — 100% success.
How should I prepare for the free consultation?
All you need is: site location and rated power, the technical setup and roughly how much time is left from ION. We'll work out the rest together.
